In his speech, Mr. Michailidis gave a brief overview of the 50-year course of the Cyprus Automobile Association as part of the FIA in Cyprus and the WRC and ERC events hosted in our island to emphasize that “Cyprus has one of the greatest history in the racing championships, and that no other country has the FIA awarded with the special prize for the best organization of an international race by an amateur group of volunteers, an award given to the CAA in 2018".

Mr. Michailides said that "the strict conditions set for travelling from one country to another were the reason why most competitors of the ERC expressed reluctance to undergo the painful process that involves their descent to distant. Because the organization of the European sector of our race obeys the payment of a large amount of money for the rights to promoter and the increased organizational costs due to COVID-19, the European sector unfortunately had to be canceled. "We will focus on organizing a well organised race that counts in the Middle East Rally Championship."

Mr. Phivos Zachariades referred to the past of the Cyprus Rally, where the very first winner was his brother Viktoras. After describing himself as a "man of motorsport" and standing on the fact that "in 2000 a dream of decades came true with the inclusion of Cyprus Rally in the WRC", he expressed the hope that "from 2021, with the appropriate support from the state, the Cyprus Rally will return to the calendar of the ERC and will continue the brilliant course it has set in the first 50 years of its life ".

Dr. Charalambous-Papamiltiadous noted that “The undertaking of this international scope of organization by the Cyprus Automobile Association has the financial support of the Republic of Cyprus through the CSO. It is one of the leading international events, which especially promotes motor sports, but also the sports of our country in general ".

Elsewhere he said that "this year's Rally Cyprus event is being held under adverse conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it was achieved after intense efforts by the CAA, whose administration I especially congratulate."

«Cancellation of the event, wasn’ t an option”

The Clerk of the Course of the Cyprus Rally noted that “the 2020 is a very special year since many problems came out, especially in the international organisations, such as ours.

Although, the cancellation of the longest and the most important international sports event of our island was not an option for us”. Thus, "The glamor of the Cyprus Rally remains great and that is the reason the eyes of the people of the WRC will be on Cyprus Rally in the coming days, expecting us to carry out a high level race"

Referring to the competition part, Mrs. Kontopoulou stated that "on Friday we only have the Ceremonial Start at the Service Park. Unfortunately the ceremony will not attended by any spectators. On Saturday, the racing part of the event starts with three special stages in the morning which will be repeated in the afternoon. For Sunday, we will run the super special stage to Lefkara and then to Analyontas which will be repeated at noon. Last stage of the race is the Eneos super special stage on the track of Achna.
