[Nicosia, Sept. 19, 2021] - More than two decades later, the Cyprus Rally will return to Eleftheria Square, for the 2021 edition. The main square of the capital, in the heart of Nicosia, is an area closely linked to the event, from the 90s and previously, as the staging area of the start and finish ceremonies.
The start of the 49th International Cyprus Rally will take place on Friday, September 24th at 19:00 CY at the recently renovated Eleftheria Square and specifically in the courtyard of the historic former building of the City Hall, in front of the Ionic style marble columns. The cars will then move parallel of Eleftheria Square, at the north side and after driving through Rigenis street, they will reach Solomou Square, before taking the route towards the Service Park in Aglantzia.
The finish ceremony will take place in the same area on Sunday, September 26th at 18:00 CY, during which the 2021 winners will be crowned.

Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Constantinos Yiorkadjis, sent his message of delight for the staging of the event. "We are excited to welcome the 49th International Cyprus Rally in Nicosia. It is important for us that the most prestigious international sporting event hosted in our country, will return this year to the renewed heart of the capital. We look forward to welcoming the competitors and their cars on the bastion of the Venetian Walls in front of the old City Hall, a building which overlooks the renovated Eleftheria Square, a reference point for Nicosia and the whole of Cyprus".
Mr. Yiorkadjis added: "By hosting the Cyprus Rally, we send the message that the historic centre of our city is changing. It becomes beautiful, accessible, functional, and now attracts large events, in sports and beyond".

The Clerk of the Course, Ms Nayia Kontopoulou, spoke on the matter of returning to Eleftheria Square for the two ceremonies: "It is a great joy for us that our event will return to the heart of Nicosia, where it was established decades ago. We believe that the Cyprus Rally will contribute to the promotion of the new image of the centre of the capital. We want to thank the Municipality of Nicosia and personally the mayor Mr. Yiorkadjis for the hospitality and the cooperation, as well as the Municipality of Aglantzia and mayor Mr. Andreas Constantinou for hosting the service park".
The 49th Cyprus Rally is organized by the Cyprus Automobile Association and will act as the 4th round of the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) and the 4th & 5th round of the Cyprus Rally Championship 2021.
